Dr Demetris Iacovides has a BS degree in Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California, San Francisco where he was the recipient of a UC Regents Graduate Fellowship. He subsequently joined the Department of Lifesciences at University of California, Berkeley, where he was awarded a Susan Komen Fellowship for research in breast cancer, and a GSK research award for his work on novel nanofluidic applications and assays for early cancer detection. While in California, he founded ScienceLabs, an educational service that provided laboratory-based science education to home-schooled children of all ages. He has 20 years of experience in laboratory practices and research in Life Sciences, and has taught numerous science courses to children and adults at all levels, from elementary to graduate and medical school students. Dr Iacovides is the founder and CEO of Scientini, a visiting Lecturer of Biochemistry and Biology at the University of Nicosia, and a scientific collaborator with the Center for Intelligent Systems and Networks and the Department of Biology at the University of Cyprus.
